In 2006, the City Manager established the Water Resources Center to facilitate City water management efforts, lead the expansion of City water plans and programs, guide the rollout of new programs, and demonstrate the City’s strong commitment to the management of this critical resource.
The establishment of the Center provides the following benefits:
- Consolidates water management planning and strategies in the City Manager’s Office
- Provides a central control point to coordinate and facilitate water plans and conservation programs
- Streamlines and expedites both key decisions and new program development
- Provides a single source to lead initiatives and provide information on water issues for the City Council, the City staff, partner agencies and the public
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate City water conservation programs
- Coordinate City water mitigation plans
- Advocate for City water plans, programs and activities with stakeholders
- Review water management options; recommend implementation plans and methods
- Plan and coordinate City efforts to support Fort Huachuca's goals as set out in its Biological Opinion
- Oversee and coordinate efforts with the Water Wise program
- Direct the activities of the City's Water Leadership Team
- Plan and coordinate the City's public outreach efforts with the Public Information Office
- Coordinate efforts with Fort Huachuca
- Integrate the best available science, practices and procedures into City water plans and programs
- Act as the staff liaison to the City's Environmental Affairs Commission
- Act as staff liaison to the Fort Huachuca Conservation Committee
- Facilitate, coordinate and support departmental water management initiatives and programs
- Regularly measure and report results - Count drops!
Current Efforts:
- Developed new rebate/incentive programs for City residents
- Expansion of public outreach efforts
- Facilitation of ordinance changes and revisions to support mitigation objectives
- Ensuring that all City activities reflect strong water conservation practices and priorities
- Focusing on Fort Huachuca's water mitigation requirements under the Biological Opinion, and developing and implementing programs and projects to assist the Fort in meeting its objectives
- Focusing on achievable, measurable results - Counting drops!
- Supporting and augmenting ongoing efforts by other stakeholders
- Ensuring that City plans and programs reflect the science and data that has been developed by the Upper San Pedro Partnership (Partnership)
