The Water Leadership Team (formerly
the Water Management Team) is an internal team of senior staff officials
that was formed to focus on City water mitigation plans, priorities
and projects. The Water Leadership Team (WLT) has picked up where the
former Water Management Team left off, and is working to assure that
City efforts add value, provide measurable results, and are consistent
with the Biological Opinion between U.
S. Army and the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The WLT focuses on
coordinating the City's water conservation and mitigation efforts, tracking
the results of those efforts, and ensuring that the public is well informed
on water issues in the Sierra Vista Sub-watershed.
Team Members:
Approach:
- Develop municipal projects and programs to address regional water
issues
- Seek near-term results
- Add value for City residents
- Take specific measurable actions
- Develop interdepartmental projects and programs
- Ensure stakeholders have adequate information regarding City water
conservation and mitigation efforts
- Implement projects based on the best available science, studies
and data
- Compile and analyze Sierra Vista specific water data, including
annual water use data and “fair share” analyses
- Represent City interests and priorities internally and externally
related to water issues
- Assist Fort Huachuca in meeting the goals of the Biological
Opinion
Priorities:
- Expand Rebate/Incentive programs for
City residents
- Develop rebate programs for Sierra Vista commercial sector
- Develop and implement municipal strategy in response to any new requirements in the Biological Opinion currently being negotiated
- Ensure City elected officials always have current information on City water projects and programs and can advocate for those programs with all stakeholders
- Expand and improve public outreach efforts
- Develop City Water Website
- Review, expand codes and ordinances as needed
- Measure and report - Count drops!
Current Activities:
- Reviewing, updating codes and ordinances relating to water conservation
- Reviewing internal operating procedures to ensure they set the
standard for water efficiency
- Developing key messages regarding city plans, programs and achievements
to date
- Developing proposals to expand and improve municipal rebate and
incentive programs
- Developing a new public information program, to include a water
website,
(“All About Water”), printed materials, displays, and
outreach to community leaders and residents
- Researching expanded opportunities to further assist Fort Huachuca
in meeting the requirements of its Biological Opinion
